American Heart Association
Sherman & Balhoff Orthodontics is a big supporter of our local chapter of the American Heart Association, of which Dr. Balhoff is a member of the Executive Leadership Team. We have two of our own team members who have or have had heart conditions. Our office attends and serves as a sponsor for the Go Red For Women Luncheon. We also plan to show our support for them by starting a team for the Heart Walk this coming year and would love for you to join us! We will continue to support this organization and fight against heart disease.
Our Lady Of The Lake Children’s Health Cleft And Craniofacial Team
This team of specialists devises a comprehensive, individualized plan of treatment for each child. These experts meet on a regular basis to organize the specific follow-up appointments each child needs. All recommendations made by the cleft and craniofacial team are discussed with the parents as well as the child’s pediatrician and other specialists involved in their care.
St. Jude Dream Day Fishin’ Galore
Sherman & Balhoff Orthodontics has been an active participant in the St. Jude Dream Day Fishin’ Galore for the last several years. This annual event provides a day of fun for St. Jude patients and their families. The day is filled with several activities such as fishing, archery, skeet shooting, hayrides, crafts, a petting zoo, karaoke, and more. We have hosted the lemonade stand which has become very popular, especially after receiving the secret recipe from Dream Day Foundation veterans. We look forward to continuing to show our support for the St. Jude Dream Day Foundation for years to come.
Braveheart Christmas In July
Every year we host our annual Christmas In July fundraiser benefitting Brave Heart, Children In Need Inc. This non-profit organization works year-round to provide a better quality of life for foster children in Louisiana. We collect new and unused items for the entire month of July. We focus on collecting items for babies and toddlers since the organization does not receive as many donations for them throughout the year as they do for the older children. Our goal is to continue to work with Brave Heart, Children In Need Inc. to help make a difference in the lives of our local foster children.
Dominican Sisters Of The Presentation Community Clinic, Guaimaca, Honduras
In 2009, Dr. Sherman began working with the Dominican Sisters Of The Presentation in Guaimaca, Honduras by providing free dental care for the students of their school and local village residents in need. Since 2009, Dr. Sherman, his family, and a team of volunteers have traveled to Honduras once, and often twice a year, to continue to treat as many patients as possible. Not only do the students receive general dental care, but also orthodontic treatment when needed. Through their efforts, in October 2017, Dr. Sherman, along with multiple volunteers, was able to open a new, fully-functional dental clinic to meet the many dental needs of the students and residents of Guaimaca.
4theKids Baton Rouge, Inc.
4theKids is a local charity started by teens in 2012 and co-founded by Dr. Sherman’s daughter Elizabeth at the age of 15. 4theKids works to improve local hospital facilities for children, and promote teen involvement in the community. 4theKids has contributed over $125,000 towards the construction of the new freestanding Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. Our office enjoys helping their efforts by attending fundraising events and supporting their endeavor.
National MS Society
Sherman & Balhoff Orthodontics is involved in several events for the National MS Society. This organization works to advocate and raise money to improve the quality of life for people living with Multiple Sclerosis and hopefully find a cure. We attend and serve as a sponsor for the annual On The Move Luncheon. We also participate in Walk MS. Dr. Balhoff created a team in support of one of our team members, who has MS. Last year we not only had the largest walk team, which consisted of over sixty people, but we won the award for best team shirt, the most money raised per team & also the most money raised per individual.
