Stephen L. Sherman, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Stephen L. Sherman is an orthodontic specialist in Baton Rouge, Prairieville, Central, and Addis, LA. He works, striving for one common goal, to create beautiful, healthy smiles for his patients. Dr. Sherman’s career is characterized by an abiding commitment to education and the genuine care of his patients. Upon receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in 1976, he graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 1983 with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He was awarded by the C. Edmund Kells Honor Society for academic achievement in his class. In 1985, Dr. Sherman earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Dentistry Orthodontics Department. Dr. Sherman continues to enhance his orthodontics training regularly through voluntary courses. In 1991, he attained the honor of Board-Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics. Additionally, from 1991 to 1993, Dr. Sherman completed a comprehensive course on functional occlusion and temporomandibular joint health and stability from the Roth/Williams Center for Functional Occlusion in San Francisco. In January 2004, Dr. Sherman presented his original research paper entitled, “Orthodontic Retention and Stability.” This paper completed the requirements for admission to the Midwest Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. Dr. Sherman is one of two Louisiana orthodontists to complete the rigorous, four-year admission process.
Dr. Sherman lives in Baton Rouge with his wife, Jane, and their three sons and daughter. With a difference in age of only five years between his first and fourth child, Dr. Sherman is a dedicated and loving father who remains busy with his family. In the community, Dr. Sherman enjoys supporting Louisiana State University and its sporting programs, as well as assisting Baton Rouge area elementary and high schools with their fund-raising projects. Dr. Sherman has lectured at both local and national meetings, to orthodontic students, and dental professionals all around the world. He is active in his local and state dental associations, having served as president of the Greater Baton Rouge Dental Association and the Louisiana Orthodontic Association.
David A. Balhoff, D.D.S.
Dr. Balhoff is a native of Baton Rouge and a graduate of Catholic High School. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in 2000, Dr. Balhoff graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, LA in 2006 with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He received the Dean’s Outstanding Senior Dental Student award and the LSUSD Alumni Association Leadership Award. Dr. Balhoff was a member of honor dental societies for outstanding academic and clinical achievement in his dental class. Dr. Balhoff went on to complete his Orthodontic Residency at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in June 2008.
Dr. Balhoff is a private practice orthodontist at Sherman and Balhoff Orthodontists at the Baton Rouge and Prairieville office locations. He has published research and clinical orthodontic articles in the Journal of Orthodontics (2009) and Orthotown (2014) magazine, respectively. Dr. Balhoff also became the first Orthodontist to start the charitable arm of Smiles Change Lives in the state of Louisiana.
In 2013 Dr. Balhoff completed the Full FACE Course (Functional and Cosmetic Excellence). This 2-year continuing education course incorporated comprehensive diagnostics, airway-focused orthodontics, thorough treatment mechanics, and the latest orthodontic advancements for treating the entire dental and facial system. He is a member of the American Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Association (ACPA) and is a team member of the Our Lady of the Lake Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Team.
He was awarded the 2014 New Dentist Award, which is given to one dentist in the state of LA annually for his civic involvement, public service, and unselfish devotion to the dental profession.
In 2015, Dr. Balhoff began utilizing Invisalign as an orthodontic treatment option for his patients. He became the leading Invisalign provider in the state of Louisiana. Now, as a leading clear aligner provider in Louisiana, Dr. Balhoff presents to the LSU Orthodontic Residency students annually to help educate them in their clear aligner studies.
Dr. Balhoff is married to his wife Leah Blaize Balhoff, and they have 3 sons–Thomas, Andrew, and Henry. Dr. Balhoff enjoys watching and coaching sports, being in the outdoors, and simply being with his family. He has A LOT of 1st cousins.

Dr. Stephen Sherman Jr. is a private practice orthodontist in Baton Rouge, Prairieville, Central, and Addis, LA. Dr. Stephen’s passion for orthodontics was developed at a young age while spending time at his father’s practice.
After experiencing braces as a teenager, Dr. Stephen knew that he wanted the same opportunity of creating beautiful smiles for others as his father had done for him. After graduating from Catholic High School, he attended Louisiana State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2012. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2016 from Louisiana State University in New Orleans.
Like his father, he was a member of the C. Edmund Kells Honor Society. Dr. Stephen continued his education at the University of Oklahoma School of Dentistry Orthodontics Department and earned a Master of Science degree. As a leader in orthodontics, Dr. Stephen has lectured across the country to orthodontists from all around the world.
Dr. Stephen Sherman previously served as the president of the Greater Baton Rouge Dental Association, and he is active in all state and local dental associations. In addition to serving as a leader in our own community, he has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
Dr. Stephen believes in leadership through serving others. Along with the Sherman family, he previously helped to lead an annual dental service mission to Honduras and currently volunteers on the Cleft Lip and Palate team for the Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Dr. Stephen also enjoys promoting oral health at the local schools and teaching children the importance of maintaining a healthy smile.
Outside of Orthodontics, Dr. Stephen enjoys supporting LSU athletics, spending time with his family and friends, and all things outdoors. He and his wife Ainsley live in Baton Rouge and have two sons-Tripp and Walter.
Kramer Sherman, D.D.S, M.S.
Dr. Kramer Sherman is a board-certified orthodontist proudly serving patients throughout Baton Rouge, Central, and Addis, Louisiana. He is passionate about creating healthy, confident smiles while providing an exceptional experience for every patient and family who walks through the door.
A Baton Rouge native and graduate of Catholic High School, Dr. Sherman earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in 2012 before receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry in New Orleans in 2017. During dental school, he was honored with the Dean’s Award as the most outstanding graduate in his class and was inducted into both the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Dental Honor Society and the C. Edmund Kells Honor Society—an achievement shared by both his father and brother.
Dr. Sherman then completed his specialty training in orthodontics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where he earned a Master of Science degree and received advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of orthodontic and dentofacial conditions. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist, a distinction earned by only a select percentage of orthodontists through a rigorous voluntary certification process that demonstrates a commitment to the highest standards of patient care.
Committed to advancing the specialty, Dr. Sherman has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, teaches continuing education courses, and regularly lectures to orthodontists from across the United States and around the world. He also serves the profession through volunteering for the Louisiana Dental Association House of Delegates.
Giving back to the community is an important part of Dr. Sherman’s life. He believes leadership begins with serving others and is proud to volunteer as part of the Cleft Lip and Palate Team at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, helping provide specialized care for children and families throughout Louisiana.
Outside the office, Dr. Sherman enjoys cheering on the LSU Tigers, traveling, spending time outdoors, and making memories with family and friends. He and his wife, Hannah, met on a Southwest Airlines flight and have since traveled together to five continents. They are excited to welcome their first child, Olivia, this fall. Their Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Okie, is also a beloved member of the family and rarely turns down an outdoor adventure.
