When to see an Orthodontist?
Nothing enhances one’s appearance and self-esteem quite like an attractive smile! A healthy, bright, confident smile is priceless and so important to social and career success and long-term health. For children, teenagers and adults, it’s a gift that keeps on giving for a lifetime! While most patients are direct referrals from their family dentist, a referral is not necessary for a new adult and/or child patient consultation.
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that the proper age for a child’s first visit to the orthodontist is 7 years old or even earlier if a problem is noted by the parents, family dentist, or physician. An early orthodontic examination is a valuable preventive measure in controlling a child’s dental and skeletal growth. This may involve interceptive treatment, early Phase I treatment, controlling habits, or simply Dr. Sherman and Dr. Balhoff periodically monitoring the patient’s growth.
