Welcome to Sherman and Balhoff Orthodontics and congratulations, you have BRACES!! While we can assure you that you will love your experience with us, we just want to give you a few tips and recommendations to make sure you and your braces have a good relationship.
Three tips to ensure you and your braces have a good relationship:
- Avoiding sticky and hard foods is very important. We know, it’s tough to say no to these yummy treats, but we promise your braces will thank you later. Sticky, chewy, or hard foods can break a bracket or bend a wire, so avoiding them completely is the best plan.
- Brush and FLOSS. Yes, we said floss. Trust us, we know flossing around brackets and wires isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do, but it is the best way to prevent oral health problems. Ask one of our wonderful assistants for some floss threaders to make flossing easier.
- Avoid biting into foods with your front teeth and try to chew your food with your back teeth. Cutting up foods that you would normally bite into is a good way to lower the risk of damaging your front brackets and wires. Corn on the cob and meat on the bone are two great examples of foods that you should not bite into.
